UAE National Day 2026: Turn 1–3 Leave Days Into a 5–9 Day Break (And Keep Your Business Running While You're Away)

The UAE's last public holiday of 2026 is National Day — Eid Al Etihad — and this year it's worth a little planning. The two official holiday days land on Wednesday and Thursday, December 2–3. Stack a day or two of annual leave around them the right way, and a two-day holiday turns into a much longer break.

Here's how the math actually works out, based on the current calendar (note: as with any UAE public holiday, the government can shift the date to the start or end of the week under Cabinet Resolution No. 27 of 2024, so treat these as planning estimates, not confirmed dates, until officially announced).
Take 1 day off → get 5 days off. Add Friday, December 4 to the two public holidays, and you're off from Wednesday, December 2 through Sunday, December 6 — five days in a row.
Take 2 days off → get 6 days off. Take Monday, November 30 and Tuesday, December 1. Combined with the weekend before and the two National Day holidays, that's six straight days off, from Saturday, November 28 through Thursday, December 3.
Take 3 days off → get 9 days off. This is the big one. Take Monday, November 30, Tuesday, December 1, and Friday, December 4. That links the weekend before, two leave days, both National Day holidays, one more leave day, and the weekend after — nine consecutive days off, from Saturday, November 28 through Sunday, December 6.
Worth checking with HR before you lock anything in — some companies need leave requests submitted well in advance, and approval isn't guaranteed just because the math works.
If You Run the Business, "Time Off" Looks Different
That 9-day stretch is great news if you're an employee. If you own the business, it usually means something else: who's answering customer messages while you're on the beach in Ras Al Khaimah or visiting family back home?
A few things worth sorting out before the long weekend hits, especially if you don't have a website yet:
- Update your Google Business Profile hours for December 2–6 (or whichever days you're actually closed) so customers searching don't show up to a locked door. This is one of the most common things businesses forget before a holiday stretch.
- Set a WhatsApp Business away message so anyone messaging you gets an instant, professional reply with your reopening date — instead of radio silence that makes a potential customer move on to a competitor.
- If you don't have a website, customers searching for you during this period find nothing at all — no hours, no services, no way to reach you until you're back. A basic site removes that gap entirely; it keeps working and answering basic questions (what you offer, how to reach you) even while you're completely offline.
If you've been meaning to get your business online before year-end, this is actually a reasonable moment to do it — before the National Day rush, and before the traditionally busy January "new year, new business" search spike that follows it.
